Scholarships for PhD students

Supported by the Research Training Program of the German Science Foundation (DFG) we announce the

"International Research Training Group (Internationales Graduiertenkolleg) Visualization of Large and Unstructured Data Sets Applications in Geospatial Planning, Modeling, and Engineering" 2011

by granting 10 Scholarships for PhD students for a period of 36 months.

The scholarships are based on the support rate granted by the DFG and amount to

  • EUR 1365,- per month
  • with a monthly supplement of EUR 103,-

A meaningful application should include

  • a cover letter
  • certificates of M.Sc. or comparable degrees

Cooperation with U.S. Universities

The single research projects in the visualization and application domains are closely interlinked and are also linked to related projects at our U.S. partner universities, the University of California Davis, the Arizona State University, and the University of Utah.

In order to benefit from these links, the participants of the IRTG will spend part of their time doing research at one of these partner institutions.

Research Field

In today’s visualization research, handling large and structured or small and unstructured data sets is the state of the art. Large and unstructured data sets are still not very well understood, especially with respect to visualization.

In order to address these questions, we have set up this International Research Training Group (IRTG). In detail, we are handling visualization problems with respect to modeling, feature detection, and comparison tasks. For doing this, both the extension of existing techniques and the development of new ones is intended.
